Sony announced the Accolades feature with the PlayStation 5. The Commendations system, which can be described as digital rewards earned during multiplayer games, did not last long. The company plans to remove the compliments feature later this year.
Sony to remove Accolades feature next year
This year, Sony has decided to remove the Accolades feature, which is much less used than expected. The PlayStation 5 community rewards feature allowed players to accolade other players for helpful and generous actions. However, Sony does not seem to get the expected interaction with the Accolades feature.
The Accolades feature was originally introduced to make players appreciate each other. After completing an online match, players could choose a player to be rewarded with one of four rewards. These options are listed as follows: Helpful, Sincere, Sportsman and Leader.
The idea was to capture positive communication between the multiplayer communities. The infrastructure of the system is also quite solid. Players can only send accolade to players outside the friend list. It is also not possible to send a second commendation to the same player within 12 hours.
Sony introduced PS Stars loyalty program
While Sony is removing this praise system, it also gives the good news of a new reward system to the players. The company has announced its new PS Stars loyalty program that rewards PS4 and PS5 players.
Players will collect points by playing certain games or winning certain trophies through the PS Stars system. These points can then be redeemed for digital collections and on the PS Store. The new system is expected to be used all over the world this year.
It seems that Sony is more concerned with the number of times the game is played. So what do you think about Sony’s removal of the Praise system? Please share with us in the comments.
